Vivid Dreams

While watching a Chantix commercial...

Me: Watch, I betcha they'll say it causes nausea and vivid dreams.
Mike: I take it you've seen this commercial before?
Me: ........
Mike: What?
Me: Well, that, or I'm in pharmacy school.

Gotta put $25,000 a year to good use ;)

Mrs. Teacher!  Why does some medicine cause vivid dreams?

Chantix works by blocking certain receptors in the brain (mostly to prevent nicotine from having the "reward" effects smokers experience from smoking). Any sort of drug that may affect the brain is going to have some central nervous system side effects, like dizziness, insomnia, and sometimes unusual dreams.

I'm not terribly convinced that this side effect is significant--I read one study where Chantix users had unusual dreams 3% of the time... as opposed to non-Chantix users 2%. Taken with a grain of salt I suppose. ;)
